The Depressing Hour

The Depressing Hour is a chapter story placed long after the events of the first season of Minecraft Story Mode, focusing on Aiden and his gang, along with some new allies banding together to defeat a new threat


Plot[]

Maya is kidnapped by a mysterious being in the night and it's up to Aiden, Reginald and the gang, along with some new allies to figure out who it was and to save Maya. Their findings end up taking them to Ivor's home, then The Games where they discover in an old journal entry that a being called a Dark Shadow took Maya. This Dark Shadow ends up being Aiden's own Dark shadow, who was spawned from his jealously, rage and bloodlust at Sky City and wants to kill him, no matter what it takes to do so... With all his past sins arising once more, Aiden spirals in depression and suicidal ideation, where he does in fact try to do so at points in the story. However, half-way through the story, Aiden realises that despite his past mis-deeds, people still do care about him and love him the way he is and don't view him as a monster like his Dark Shadow. With new-found courage, Aiden steps up to defeat his Dark Shadow once and for all, whether it means he lives or not...

The story is driven by these heavy topics, emotions and character interactions along with the main plot. By the end of the story, it's revealed that Aiden's dark shadow only wanted to kill Aiden because then he would die as well, as they are both connected. He was going through so much mental and psychological pain (Trauma), he wanted to end his life to rid of it all, however Aiden gives him another chance and brings him back to his world, where he and the group agree to look after his dark shadow (Now named Aodh) and give him moral support whenever needed

A unique factor of the story is the fact that the info the characters gather is all in Hadrian's old journal, as shown in the Prologue and Chapters Two and Nine. They discover what Dark Shadows are thanks to his findings from his old research on the portal worlds in Chapter Two, however in chapter Nine when Reginald is feeling depressed after having a major argument with Aiden, he reads some of Hadrian's personal entries and connects to the old builder, seeing he wasn't always the twisted man everyone says he is. This feature may possibly be expanded on in future stories

"When I started writing this story, I was nervous; I wasn't sure how people would react to it. While my stories have always drifted to the more dark and mature topics, I was still unsure if people would like it. How would they react to the mature content? The new characters? The redemption arc? All these thoughts clouded my mind until I saw the feedback; I was blown away by the positive responses! So many people were enjoying the story and were loving the topics I was touching as they are important to know in this day and age. Everyone loved the new characters, especially Aodh and loved how I developed the main character's personalities throughout the story. I was really proud of myself. I had written a story a whole group of people enjoyed and many are anxiously anticipating my next chapter story 'Forbidden Love'. I loved writing this story, and I can't wait to further touch upon these characters and important topics once more,"

Trivia[]

  • The story was Poke's first full-fledged chapter story
  • Poke's personal favourite part to write was Hadrian's journal entries
  • The story was compared to the Persona series many times by ForeverFairy as she was able to grasp similarities between it and the story
  • The story was written during a time Poke was struggling with her mental disorders, life and family, and in some way, Aiden and Aodh are reflections on how she felt and how she tried to cope with all these problems
  • Poke's favourite characters in the story are Aodh, Reginald and Hadrian
  • The story was inspired by multiple role-plays Poke had done with her friends, most notably mariosonicfan16
  • Poke was also inspired by how she perceives characters in pop culture and the famous saying of 'Never judge a book by it's cover' which is shown through Aodh's character arc and Hadrian's past journal entries
  • Like all of Poke's stories, there were many references throughout the story, some major, some minor
  • Otto's saying of “Pain makes you do things you never thought you could do.” in Chapter Four is a line from the song Balloons by MandoPony on youtube, however the song itself has no meaning/context in the story
  • Gill's line “Dude! Since when did you become DK?” in Chapter Seven is a direct reference to the video game character Donkey Kong
  • Maya's cursed or 'mind-broken' state and the Second Alternate Ending were all inspired by Yandere Simulator's Murder-Suicide elimination method
  • In Chapter Two, Slab mentions Cassie returning to The Games, referencing Poke's old story The Most Dangerous Game which in a timeline sense, comes a few months before this story
  • It is mentioned many times in both Hadrian's journal entries and by Otto and Harper that Hadrian and Mevia are in fact married, however it's unknown if Poke will expand on this in a future story
  • It is hinted at in the story (Most notably Chapters One, Two and Fifteen) that Ivor and Harper are in fact together, however Poke has not revealed when this happened and how deep their relationship is at the moment, though it is safe to say that in her fanon, they are officially boyfriend and girlfriend
  • Aodh having the power to summon the Witherstorm tentacles does have a canonical explanation in Poke's fanon, however she has admitted in forgetting what that detail is, thus for now Aodh obtaining these powers is a mystery
  • While her DA username is Pokemaster555, the coverpage suggests the story was written by Berry-O-Pokemon. This in fact is still Poke however, as Berry-O-Pokemon is her old DA name and is the name of other websites she is apart of, most notably Wattpad, Smule and The Fandom Wiki
